Old Settlers Days returns to community

COLUMBIA CITY — On behalf of all past Red Coats, current officers, and volunteers I welcome you to the 2021 Old Settlers Days Festival.

Following a lost year in 2020, we look forward to again lighting up the midway in downtown Columbia City and the American Legion Old Settlers Days Parade.

All are welcome as we invite you to join us in celebrating the original settlers of Whitley County. Join us friends, neighbors, and visitors as we return to community.

A lot of activities are planned for the week. Check out the schedule of events in this publication. There is something for everyone.

Poor Jack’s Amusements will provide nightly downtown carnival midway entertainment. Mike Redman, entertainment chairman, has lined up local talent to perform nightly on the south lawn of the courthouse. Thursday is the traditional Old Settlers Day of Old Settlers week where we honor the Longest Continuous Citizen and the Oldest Settler.

As in the past, please register at the Whitley County Historical Museum on Thursday.

One new event this year is a pickleball tournaments The pickle ball tourney will be sponsored by the Columbia City Parks Department and played at the courts next to the aquatics center.

Please look for more details on the Old Settlers web site.

Please join me in thanking the many volunteers who year after year work behind the scenes to make this festival possible. Police,

Fire, Dispatchers, EMS, Emergency Management, Mayor Daniels, City Departments, Whitley County Commissioners, County maintenance department, and the cooperation of our local downtown businesses.

Also, thanks to the businesses that offer the advanced ticket sales. The OSD Association appreciates the efforts of all individuals involved with the festival.

We look forward to seeing you at the festival and at the parade sponsored by the Columbia City American Legion Post 98.
